Pelikan has been a brand that I loved from the start. My first “real FP” was a Pelikan, the M205 Amethyst. Sadly I missed out on that particular ink, but have not made that mistake since! So it was a no brainer that I would try the new Edelstein color Smoky Quartz. At the end of this blog posting, you might have a chance to try it as well!
I love the Edelstein packaging and bottle, both are tasteful and of a high quality.
For this review I decided to ink up my new Montblanc Rouge et Noir Coral Snake ^_^.
InkJournal Entry:
Line going down on 68GSM Hippo Noto tomoe paper:
β
βInk Blob:
This ink had all of the characteristics of an Edelstein ink, awesome flow, good saturation, and really lovely shading, however it just did not do it for me. For some reason I kept seeing a green tinge to the brown which isn’t very flattering on the color. It does have that great shading, but not enough to keep me enamored with the color. Not my cup of tea, but perhaps its yours? Giveaway time!
Prize: 1x Bottle of Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz
Deadline: 4/4/17 @ 7:00PM HST
Open to USA:

I have been preoccupied with purples and violets that I haven’t tried many brown inks yet but this dark rich brown looks amazing and the shading looks so sweet! I don’t see the green tinge you mentioned but I would like that even more! So if Lady Luck decides to turn her back on me I think I’ll be ordering this one shortly after! Great review once again! I would really like to try this ink, even if the sheen is green. I love the vintage feel of this. Sorry it disappointed you.

Oddly enough, this is the first IOTY from Pel that really caught my eye. Part of the color spectrum that I really like. Annnnd… I just haven’t gotten around to ordering it yet. Maybe it’s that giant box full of bottles of ink, maybe not.
We’ll see. π

Thanks for doing the giveaway! I have been waiting to get a good look at this ink. I love green and brown inks, especially those with nice shading. I have a number of other Pelikan Edelstein inks and I like them and theier beautiful bottles too. A member of our local pen club (IowaPen) said he is going to be bringing samples of this ink to a future meeting. Hope I win this so I can help with that! By the way I’m also a subscriber to your blog, the rules said to mention this. Now I am off to FPN to comment on your post there too! Thanks for the great review and giveaway!

This brown is so pretty! I think writing with this ink on a lovely light cream paper would make the piece look old world and a little vintage. Thanks for this giveaway! I am really touched by your generosity. β€

I rather like the colour – based on your images since I’ve not encountered it in real life. It has a sort of vintage quality that appeals to me, like old leather bound books or a favourite old chair in a library. I don’t own a brown ink so I’d love to give it a home. Thanks for the opportunity to win your giveaway. (I’m a subscriber and commented on FB too.)

I always like brown-but-not-veering-red inks. I see this as a really nice brown/gray and think I would use it a lot. And I got a used, but new to me, pen this week that I think will be my daily favorite; this would be great in it. Thank you for the opportunity.

I wonder how close this ink is to iroshizuku yama-guri! Squishyink, have you done a drip on a paper towel? Maybe we’d see a bit of green there, as we did with the Curry …
(And BTW Iβm already subscribed to you, both on here and on IG, and Iβd love to score a bottle of this Smoky Quartz.)

I still haven’t seen it in person, but from the Slack & IG posts it looks like a brown ink that I’m going to really like. As I often write on regular paper (can’t afford to supply my own rhodia or Clairefontaine for the office), I love inks that shade. Sheen never.shows up on inexpensive papers I use, but shading does.
This ink appears to have the shading that I like to see in my inks.
