The holiday season is upon us! So what better way to celebrate than a giveaway? Details at the end of this post ^_^.
Don’t hate me for saying this, but I am not a Beatles fan. I don’t dislike them, but I never really got the appeal, perhaps its the skipped generation or not growing up with parents listening to them. So when I heard about the Montblanc The Beatles Special Edition Fountain Pen and coordinating ink, I was only about as excited as I would be for any other themed MB ink. Upon seeing the truly psychedelic pen in stock photos online, I was intrigued but not sold. It was a given that I would try the new purple ink, but I really wasn’t planning to walk out of MB that night with a pen.
The experience of seeing and holding this pen in person sold me on it. I usually don’t like to pay retail, but MB was running a promotion for a free luggage tag, Beatles Vinyl, and MB umbrella to sweeten the deal.
The luggage tag even came with complimentary art! A very talented man by the name of Rick goes into the Hawaii Montblanc store on select weekends and paints whatever you want on leather goods. When I was there he was working on a couple of notebooks. I of course asked for a hippo and a cactus on my tag, and he did not disappoint!
Photos do not do the pen justice.
The effect of the ink filling the engraving on the nib after a fill is one of the most beautiful I have seen. Size wise it is very substantial, but the weight is not overwhelming. The colors are a feast for the eyes, and the ruthenium metal suits it well. At $930.00 this isn’t a cheap pen, but there was a lot of care put into the crafting and symbolism of this piece. It uses a piston fill mechanism, which is my favorite as well. Writing sample posted below with the ink review.
Now to the ink! For this review I inked the matching Beatles pen, seemed only natural ^_^.

This ink is by no means a sheen monster, but the sheen is definitely present in the outline of random letters and of course on the blob. It has a nice range of color and despite being a wet ink, has some nice shading. This purple does seem a lot more psychedelic than other recently Montblanc inks, and its purple so I am a happy camper!
Now, for the chance to win this ink and a few other awesome things!
The good people at Pen Chalet were kind enough to give me a discount on a Pelikan M200 – Black for this giveaway! Included are the Pelikan M200, Hobonichi Weeks in Navy Blue, and a bottle of the fabulous Montblanc Beatles Ink! I will be choosing the winner on Christmas Eve.
There are still a few cream hippos left! Less than 20, so if you’ve had your eye on one, now is a great time. We will not have stock again until the ivory hippos come in. Click Here to Join the Hippo Squad!
I leave you now with a photo of my small but hopefully growing MB collection ^_^.

Certainly not a pen for everyone, but all should at least admire it!

Wow! What a pen! I love The Beatles and this Montblanc is one of very few of MB-s that I really like. Only the price….
Anyway, thanks for the giveaway! I’d love to try this psychedelic purple 😉

The pen is a little bit too “showy” for my tastes, but I’m a big fan of that ink. I kinda fell in love from the first time I saw images of it.
