From the beginning of my fountain pen love affair, I’ve been after sheen and other ink I consider interesting. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that someday I would have the opportunity to work with amazing ink producers on custom colors. Krishna x Hippo Noto Magentum is one of these inks.
I had the pleasure of being introduced to Dr. Sreekumar of Krishna Inks through Aditya B of The Pen World. Hippo Noto started carrying Krishna ink, famed for its unique colors and sheen, and was told there may be an opportunity for collaboration. For my part I envisioned an ink the color of our logo with some sheen on it, but the Dr. knew what was in my heart before I knew it was there.
Rather than just the purple in the logo, which is definitely present in the tones of the ink, this ink ended up being right out of my sheening/shading loving fantasies.
Here are some shots:
I haven’t done a time-lapse or really any videos for a while, so here it is ^_^.
The range of color here is huge, pinks and purples in light and dark turns, some salmon colors, and that sheen! In regular writing there is a good amount of shading and sheen on the lettering.
What I love most about this ink is that it reacts differently depending on how you put it down on paper. Sometimes it shows its full range of color, yet it can be a saturated writing ink as well. Never boring! But of course below you have a chance to form your own opinions on this vibrant ink!
Prize: Krishna x Hippo Noto Magentum + Krishna Ink Pack

My dream ink is well-behaved, is work-friendly, and has good shading. I’m not as concerned with sheen or shimmer.

My dream ink would be a shimmery ink in a lovely medium green that didn’t require frequent agitation of the pen to keep it showing up on the page, and also behaved nicely with all fountain pens without fear of clogging.

I think you misnamed this ink because it’s because everything I would’ve wanted. 😁 Also thank you for the doggo pic. Makes the world a better place.

You asked about a dream ink, so here it is: I would like blue and orange together – either a blue base with orange shading or sheening – OR – orange base with blue shading or sheening properties.

I would love a smooth writing, non-smudging sheeny ink that has a “professional” color, but the sheen helps make it fun!

My dream ink already exists–sort of. I LOVE Stipula Musk Green, but it would be even better if it had some magical orange-ish sheen to it!

Wow, good question. I love a good saturated, shading ink that won’t stain a demonstrator pen. Maybe something that would change color to suit my mood. And unicorns close by.

My dream ink changes a lot, but I recently put Apache sunset in a pen that still had copper shimmer left in the feed and it came out so beautiful! I haven’t been able to find anything quite like it.

Magentum is almost my dream ink. I would want it to have a teal base. And in a much larger bottle so I can use it generously!

Congratulations on producing such an amazingly pretty and impressive custom ink! I started reading your blog just before you launched Hippo Noto and I am bowled over by all that you have achieved since then. You are a most impressive person.
My dream ink would be a wonderfully rich teal that dries with lots of variation and definitely some sheen, preferably a silvery sort of sheen.

I don’t know what my dream ink would be but one that was a great shader in hues of the ocean would be cool – light aquamarine to a teal and then to a deep blue !

My dream ink is one that has as much shading as Apache Sunset or Black Swan in Australian Roses, but brown. Something that can be anywhere from tan to a deep chocolate brown. Bonus points if it sheens a coppery or gold color in the darker points!

It may exist somewhere already, but my dream ink would be a true golden ink that doesn’t lean on the yellow side but truly sheens and reflects metallic light just like gold would.

A deep purple ink that has a copper sheen with very good shading. Almost like Lamy Dark Lilac (unicorn purple as I like to call it) but with a copper sheen (so it looks like no other ink) and crazy shading (like you can see from an EF all the way to a wet BB). I love shading more than anything else because it sets fountain pen written script aside from all other forms of writing 😀

My dream ink would shade and sheen even in an EF pen. It would be well behaved, would not feather or bleedthrough and it would play well with other inks.
