Lamy Petrol has been out for quite a while, I had planned to review it sooner, but time just got away from me and other sheen/shimmer/glitter caught my eye. In fact I had no idea that it was getting harder and harder to get a hold of this ink until I posted a photo of the amazing oil slick like sheen on Reddit. Soooo I thought this would be a pretty good time to review this ink and do a giveaway!

The ink bottle itself is great, it even comes with a blotter paper dispenser at the bottom.

For this review I decided to ink up my Bungubox Witch 2nd. Let’s just take a moment to admire that amazing raden witch hat finial!

Ink Entry:

Ink Blob:

Time-Lapse:

This ink has a really neat oil slick effect when in blob form, and some of this sheen even carries over into regular writing. It’s definitely not a super sheener like OS Walden, but it does have that desirable shiny characteristic in moderate amounts. The base color is a teal and the sheen itself really just looks like shiny tar. It also has nice shading and has behaved well in all the pens I have tried it in (The Witch 2nd, Pilot VP, and Nakaya Naka-ai). This is a nice, saturated color that makes a great multi-purpose ink. People make the comparison to Lamy Dark Lilac, in terms of rarity and value. I honestly don’t see this getting to the level of fever that DL has achieved, but I must also say that I am glad to have bought a few more bottles than I need in case I feel the urge to unleash an ink oil slick ^_^.

Before we get to the giveaway a quick update for those following the #HippoNoto journey! The cream books are mostly shipped out and we are awaiting news of the ivory paper. The paper should be out of production very soon, and then production can ramp up. Since 68GSM TR paper is very special, it isn’t as readily available as other papers would be to make into notebooks. This batch of paper is being created at this very moment, and will arrive at our production headquarters fresh and ready for printing!

It isn’t too late to join the #hipposquad! Late Pledges for our ivory shipment are still available at www.hipponoto.com. Due to a major increase in the minimum order required for the ivory paper we chose, we are still looking for Hippo homes! We expect these books to arrive at the tail end of this year or early 2018.

Now for the giveaway! Whoever wins this will receive a bottle of the Lamy Petrol Ink just reviewed, a Lamy Petrol Safari, and a Hippo Noto to make their own ink blobs in!
