My exploration into shimmer inks brought me back to an old favorite, J. Herbin 1670 Emerald of Chivor, known fondly as EoC. This ink is similar to the Diamine Shimmertastic Collection in that there are actual sparkle particles that are mixed into the ink. The shimmer particles in both collections tend to get stuck at the bottom of the bottle, so shaking the bottle before filling is advisable.
The packaging has the cutest whale on it ^_^, among other character of course.
The bottle is beautiful, square with a 1670 wax seal on the front. The only thing that I did not care for on this was that in no time at all the top of the bottle starts cracking. Another bottle I have from this series in another color has the same issue. Not a huge deal, but its a bit unsightly.
For this review I decided to ink up my TWSBI Eco White with Broad nib. I’ve used this ink with F-M nibs before but have had a bit of clogging, and to get the beautiful color variation I have better luck with broad nibs.

Of course this ink just called out for a time-lapse! ^_^
This ink is just gorgeous! Its a saturated green that sheens red and has the golden glitter particles shining in all their glory. It is just my speculation that the red is sheen, but it makes sense, as it is somewhat unpredictable where the red will be, and there does not appear to be any red glitter in the bottle when looking at the settled glitter. The red usually only appeared in the wetter pools as well. As far as shading goes, there is a bit of it, but with all of the other characteristics competing for attention I didn’t see anything too significant.
I’ve only experienced clogging with this ink a couple of times, and only when using smaller nibs. YMMV on this.
But how would you like to try this for yourself? ^_^ Yes, that’s right, theres a giveaway here.

WOWZA! I’m constantly being taken aback by all the gorgeous inks there are out there! I currently have only three and jave been trying to get into more fun inks but it’s hard to know where to start! I love the idea of the sheen and shading and sparkle and they really excite my artistic side. I want tontry doing some more drawings and calligraphy with them but am worried about smudges and bleeding. You never know until you try, right?

heh don’t worry about that! Definitely have fun with them, and if it smudges, you can always try again right 🙂 There is no shortage of wonderful ink available, my wallet cowers in fear!

I’m new to all these wonderful ink options and yes, I immediately ordered up eleventy billion samples. EoC immediately jumped to my TOP Favorites list – it is sooooo BEAUTIFUL! Despite all my other choices, I’m almost out of my ink sample – major tragedy when I do…

I’m new to fountain pens, but so far my favorite inks are those with a complex character; those that have the properties of two colors, or that reveal some special nuance as they dry.

The aspect that is simply fascinating to me is the glittery part. I would love to try it on different shades of paper to see if there are changes — cream vs. white vs pastel green for example

I really like inks that shade, such as KWZ Honey or Sailor Tokiwa-matsu. Sheen is nice, but shading is best, it adds such character to the color!

Sheening is definitely the coolest, but hard to come by in non-blue inks. Shading has a much wider range, so I can appreciate that more often.

I love the shading of this ink, but tbh I don’t really know what I’m talking about with inks yet. I just know I want to use this on my tomoe river paper for the multitude of colors!

Large nibs give the best effect. Stub, even better. The thicker the line the better the sheen.

I love inks that offer high-contrast shading with a B or Stub nib and colors that are still vibrant in a Fine nib.
And of course, I’m subscribed and have commented on FB. Thank you for this!

I SO, so, so, so, SO want this ink! I love everything about it. It is sadly out of my budget right now and I would also ideally need to buy a broad nib pen for it and ideally a demonstrator so I can see the wonderful ink at work – you now how these things spiral.
Anyway, what I really love (and covet!) about this ink is the way all the wonderful elements of the pigment separate out when it dries. I like the fact that one can control the placement of the ink on the paper but the way the sheen appears is completely random and determined by the ink itself. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you very much for the opportunity to win this incredible ink. (I am a subscriber and also commented on FB)

Shading and shimmer is what draws me to this ink. Though I think the additional reason to purchase a broad nib pen doesn’t hurt!

Inks with shading and sheen are what got me into fountain pens in the first place. Iroshizuku Kon-Peki is currently my favorite, because of its fantastic shading and subtle red sheen. I’ve never tried a shimmer-heavy ink like this one, so if I happen to win, I’ll be extra excited. (I’m also a follower of your blog, if that counts as an entry.)

Love what I see your broad nib do with this ink! I haven’t gotten into shimmering inks yet (although they are on my wish list), but I love some of the shading of the new (to me) Robert Oster Fire and Ice.

Shading for sure! It’s great to see in most inks the gradient of light at the top of letters to dark saturation at the bottom of words. Definitely deep colors like purple and red help a lot too!
